Subject: [Comminfo_jms] Intro to Media - anyone interested?
Dear colleagues,
Most of you will recall a conversation the department had in 2018 about rotating teaching in our intro class, Introduction to Media, among members of the JMS faculty. Over the past four years, Steve has taught a large section (about 250 students) every semester, and Jack and I have also taken on teaching in-person sections (about the same size) of the class. Our doctoral students have done a great job teaching smaller hybrid sections and online sections, but I think we all agree it’s too much to ask them to teach that many students while they are still developing their pedagogical skills. Jack will be going on sabbatical next spring, and I will be hopefully going on sabbatical the following year (once I have completed my time as chair), so we will need to find another faculty member to take on this class. I have loved teaching this class, and I can imagine others in the department finding it to be equally rewarding. We’re pondering what to do with the class in Spring ’24 at the soonest, and Fall ’24 at the latest, so I’m eager to line up the next faculty member who might be keen to teach this class! If this is something you’d like to explore, please get in touch.
