ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:
Catherine Bertini, Executive Director of the World Food Program,
1992-2002; UN Undersecretary General for Management 2003-2005
Bertini was the driving force behind reform of the UN World Food Program,
where she was the Chief Executive for ten years. For her leadership in
saving millions from famine and starvation, and in recognition of her
focus on womens pivotal roles in ending hunger, she won the prestigious
World Food Prize in 2003. She is now a Professor of Public Administration
at the Maxwell School at Syracuse University where she teaches classes on
the UN, humanitarian action, and girls education.
Layli Miller-Muro, Executive Director, Tahirih Justice Center
The author of numerous articles on female genital mutilation, immigration
law, and human rights abuses against women, Miller-Muro is the Executive
Director of a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting women from
human rights abuses through the provision of legal aid and public policy
advocacy.
Charlotte Bunch, Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Women's
Global Leadership, Rutgers University
Bunch has been an activist, author and organizer in the women's, civil,
and human rights movements for four decades. A Rutgers Board of Governors
Distinguished Service Professor in Womens and Gender Studies, Bunch was
previously a Fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies, a founder of
Washington D.C. Women's Liberation and of Quest: A Feminist Quarterly.
