The Labor Research Association Announces A Public Forum
Eating Cake Or Eating Crumbs: The Crisis In Retirement Security
The number of real pensions--defined benefit pensions--has
declined dramatically. Since 1978, the number of
defined-benefit plans has plummeted from 128,041 plans covering
some 41 percent of private-sector workers to only 26,000 today.
In 2005, only 55 percent of full-time and part-time private
sector workers worked at firms that sponsored a retirement plan.
How will workers survive in their retirement years? And what
does that mean for the economy?
Panelists:
Bruce Raynor, General president of UNITE-HERE and one of labor's
leading authorities on pensions and capital strategies.
Damon Silvers, Associate General Counsel, AFL-CIO, and one of
labor's key strategists on pensions and capital strategies
Lee Sheppard, Contributing editor for Tax Notes and a recognized
expert on pensions.
A representative of the business community TBA.
when: 9:00 AM on Wednesday, October 17
where: 330 West 42nd Street, 32nd floor
fee: $20 (Make check payable to Labor
Research Association)
