Subject: Honduran Workers Speak on Campus!
PLEASE FORWARD WIDELY!
RUTGERS DIRTY LAUNDRY:
Honduran Workers Come to Campus, Speaking Out Against Russell Athletic
WHO: Rutgers Labor Association and the United Students Against Sweatshops.
WHAT: The Rutgers Labor Association will be hosting United Students
Against Sweatshops' Russell Truth Tour, which will bring garment workers
from Honduras who sew our school's apparel to campus. The workers will be
speaking at various events to educate the campus community about how the
factory they work at, called Jerzees de Honduras, is in the process of
being closed by Russell Athletic for simply complying with our school's
labor standards. Instead of rewarding the only factory that Russell owns
which actually respects workers rights, Russell Athletic has decided to
cut and run from Jerzees de Honduras and source their clothing from
cheaper sweatshops. The purpose of this event is to raise awareness on
campus and in the community about the abuses going on in Honduras, and to
encourage the Rutgers Administration to enforce its anti-sweatshop
standards by terminating their licensing contract with Russell Athletic.
Students can also hear about opportunities to learn more about sweatshops,
and find out how to take action on these issues at RU.
WHEN: Wednesday February 4th 5:00 p.m.
WHERE: Graduate Student Lounge (behind Au Bon Pan)
