A new national Work Trends survey by the Heldrich Center for Workforce
Development reveals that large numbers of American workers fear that the
current economic downturn will lead to profound and permanent changes in
their jobs, their lives and the U.S. economy. "The Distressed American
Worker" is the latest in a series of Work Trends surveys launched in 1998
to better understand the public's attitudes about work, employers, and the
government, and to improve workplace practices and policy. The new survey
was conducted March 19-29, 2009, among 700 adults in the labor force,
defined as those working full- or part-time jobs or unemployed and
actively seeking employment. The appendix and methodology section of the
report are also available.
