SMLR's Prof Eaton co-authors UALE study on card check recognition

A major study commissioned by UALE has just been released. Majority Authorizations and Union Organizing in the Public Sector: A Four-State Perspective² examines the experience of four states that allow card check recognition in the pubic sector, and finds that the system has worked well to enable workers to form unions without coercion. The study was a joint project of the labor centers at the University of Illinois, Cornell, Rutgers and the University of Oregon. The effort was directed by Robert Bruno (U IL), who worked with co-authors Adrienne E. Eaton (Rutgers), Sally Alvarez (Cornell), and Lynn Feekin (U OR). The worst downturn since the Great Depression

This recession has become the longest and deepest economic downturn since the Great Depression. On June 5, the Bureau of Labor Statistics will release its May employment report, detailing how the labor market fared during the 17th month of the recession. Today, the latest labor market data available are for April 2009, 16 months into the recession that officially began in December 2007. In order to see how this recession stacks up against previous post-war recessions, we compare labor market indicators at the start of recessions to their values 16 months later.
