*Title:* Worker Protection Agencies Need More Funding to Enforce Labor Laws and Protect Workers
*Source:* Economic Policy Institute – Working Economics Blog
*Author:* Ihna Mangundayao, Celine McNicholas, and Margaret Poydock
*Date:* July 29, 2021
*Summary:* The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the widespread dangers and injustices that workers face every day. For too long, workers have been forced to work in unsafe conditions, suffered from excessive wage theft, and been subjected to discrimination and harassment. While laws aimed at deterring these workplace abuses already exist, enforcement efforts have been woefully insufficient because the agencies tasked with protecting workers are chronically under-resourced.

*Title:* The Pandemic Hurt Low-Wage Workers the Most – and So Far, the Recovery Has Helped Them the Least
*Source:* Brookings
*Author:* Nicole Bateman and Martha Ross
*Date:* July 28, 2021
*Summary:* Pandemic-induced job losses hit low-wage workers much harder than those earning higher wages and, although hiring accelerated in low-wage industries last month, low-wage jobs have been the slowest to return. This is not to downplay the toll that losing a job can take on workers at all levels, and indeed, there are middle- and higher-income workers among the recession’s victims as well. It is an unsettled time in the labor market.
