*By Kelly Heyboer kheyboer@starledger.com and Jarrett Renshawjrenshaw@starledger.com/The Star-Ledger* NEW BRUNSWICK http://www.nj.com/new-brunswick — Rutgers University's main governing board voted today to endorse the controversial higher education restructuring http://topics.nj.com/tag/rutgers-rowan-merger/index.html"in general" in a two-page resolution that leaves school officials several opportunities to withdraw their support if they don't like the final plan.
The carefully-worded resolution was designed to encourage lawmakers in Trenton to move forward with the proposal to reshuffle Rutgers, the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and Rowan University. But it also restated that Rutgers wants to keep control of its Camden campus and the university needs more time to determine how a merger will affect the university's finances.
