Rep. George Miller (D., Calif.) recently introduced the Local Jobs For America Act, which authorizes $100 billion over two years to preserve state and local government jobs, and create more jobs in local government and the non-profit sector.

In Policy Memorandum #161, EPI Vice President Ross Eisenbrey, outlines why EPI strongly supports the act, and shows why the planned distribution of funds would provide significant help to communities with large concentrations of African Americans, who suffer disproportionately high rates of unemployment and poverty.
