*Summary:* President Obama wants more of us to have insurance that would make up the difference between a job we might lose and any new, lower-paying one we might take. He said so https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2016/01/12/remarks-president-barack-obama-%E2%80%93-prepared-delivery-state-union-address?version=meter+at+1&module=meter-Links&pgtype=article&contentId=&mediaId=&referrer=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nytimes.com%2F2016%2F05%2F29%2Fbusiness%2Fwhere-more-women-are-on-boards-executive-pay-is-higher.html%3Fref%3Dinternational&priority=true&action=click&contentCollection=meter-links-click in his State of the Union address in January. But what if you couldn’t get a new job, or wanted to hold out for one that paid as much or more than your last one? That’s where private unemployment insurance may come in. It could make up some of the difference between your state unemployment check and your old salary.
