My story and SNEB Awards

Dear SNEB members, fellow nutrition educators, mentors, colleagues and friends, I’d like to share a little story. In 2007 I was nominated for the SNEB Mid Career Achievement Award. I had recently completed my PhD, I was teaching full-time at a University and I was also involved in developing a national food policy for schools. It was an exciting time in my career. Sadly, my SNEB nomination was not successful that time round, but this spurred me to strive harder, to diversify and extend my reach as a nutrition educator in my home country and to contribute further to SNEB and its mission, both of which I valued highly. You can imagine my joy when I was nominated again for the same award in 2009 and I was successful! I was honoured and also plain happy. The actual Award trophy is displayed at home in a unit in my lounge. It reminds me that hard work pays off and getting recognition for it is quite uplifting. In just over 2 days time, on March 1st, the nominations close for the multiple SNEB Awards. These will be presented at the SNEB Annual Meeting in July in Washington DC. You are still in time to nominate someone for one of these Awards which target individuals at different stages of their careers and working in different settings and with different populations. There is also an Award for a program/organisation and the two Korean Society of Community Nutrition (KSCN) Awards are brand new this year! Here are the 7 Awards available: 1) Korean Society of Community Nutrition – Professional Award 2) Korean Society of Community Nutrition – Student Award 3) Early Professional Achievement Award 4) Mid-Career Professional Achievement 5) Helen Denning Ullrich Award 6) Program Impact Award 7) Nutrition Education Research Award So please delay no further. Take a few minutes to read the criteria for each Award. (https://www.sneb.org/awards/) Someone you know or a programme you are aware of has possibly struck you at some point in time as a nutrition educator or nutrition education initiative worth recognising. It should not take you too long to complete the form for that Award and send it in. You might make someone super happy … and this year it will be even more special, as recipients will be awarded on the 50th Anniversary of SNEB! As a proud past recipient and as this year's Chair of the Awards Committee, I hope to see the nominations rolling in, in the next few days.
